Why Soils Need Us

Conventional, chemical-intensive farming has depleted soil organic carbon and biodiversity across many smallholder regions. Lab testing is expensive and hard to access, leaving most farmers without options. Maati Mange More (3M) turns soil health into a participatory movementβ€” enabling communities to assess and restore soils with simple tools, not laboratories.

The Farmer Soil Health Scorecard

Low-Cost Regenerative Practices

Organic Matter
Mulching, compost, and residues keep soils fertile and alive while improving structure and microbial life.
Crop Diversity
Rotations and intercropping cycle nutrients, break pest cycles, and balance soil ecology.
Soil Cover & Living Roots
Cover crops, hedgerows, and year-round roots prevent erosion, feed soil biota, and build carbon.
Less Tillage
Reducing disturbance preserves stable aggregates, water holding capacity, and long-term fertility.
